& Commerce
This particular site became the location for Kilkenny Engineering Products after World War II, providing employment to several hundred people in its hey day. The location subsequently became a Machinery & Store Yard for Kilkenny County Council. From 1919 to 1958, coal was shipped by rail into the heart of Kilkenny City, along the Abbeyleix line, from the then Deerpark Colliery in Castlecomer. The Transport Act of 1958 saw the demise of many railway routes in Ireland and the Kilkenny to Abbeyleix line closed on 31st December 1962, ending the coal supply. A Builders Providers then took access of the site and operated here for over 30 years.
