The South East is rich with crafts people and a number of them have come together to trade under the name “Workhouse Crafts” in Workhouse Square, MacDonagh Junction on the first Sunday of every month from 1 – 5pm. The majority of the traders are from the South East region and all items are handmade in Ireland, making it a very authentic craft fair.

CRAFT EXHIBITORSLiam Kirwin Woodturner Liam, from Clara, is a self-taught wood turner. He uses many storm felled trees and trees removed for road building, specialising in native Irish species such as beech, elm, ash, yew and sycamore. Liam turns a wide variety of items from bowls, lamps and clocks to pens and jewellery. |
Oldroad Pottery Patrick Dune from The Oldroad Pottery, works in ceramics. He casts beautiful dishes, bowls and mugs but also designs and crafts a very popular line of ceramic jewellery, "Created with Earth and Fire". As well as MacDonagh Junction, Patrick sells from the Oldroad pottery in Laois. |

Kathy's Krafts Kathy Donovan from Kathy's Krafts makes everything from tea cosys to quilts, from beaded jewellery to bags. Everything can be personalised or customised with your favourite colours or photos. The techniques used are patchwork, appliqu, embroidery, photo fabric, knitting and crochet. She also runs weekly classes, regular workshops, and birthday party activities. Kathy also sells from home at 086 8300985 |
Creative Glass Tracy Howard from Cre8tive glass in Cratloe in Clare paints glass in an astonishing variety of ways, crafting pictures, cards, fridge magnets, sun catchers and anything else that glitters and catches the eye. Susan Boland Susan Boland designs and hand throws high quality tableware. For Susan the important part of her work is that it is useful and it becomes an enjoyable and familiar part of your everyday life. The earthy tones and simple shapes can easily fit into any home. ByAisling Aisling Smith work in silver and beads. She draws inspiration for her jewellery from the passion of high fashion, from her travels and from nature. Her first collection has a soft romantic feel inspired by long mid-summer days. Currently she is working on a slightly more decadent collection with stronger colours to create a rich and heavy feel that reflects the changing seasons. Baurnafea Willow Works Heike Kahle works at Baurnafea Willow Works where she creates a large selection of traditional and contemporary willow baskets, produces woven garden structures and reseats chairs with different materials. Living willow structures like fences, tunnels and arbours can be comissioned. Heike enjoys teaching basket making skills at day courses and evening classes. Joseph - Turned Sculpted Wood Joseph is based in the countryside near Kilkenny City, Ireland and works mainly in native Irish timbers such as oak; yew; beech; hawthorn; and ash. Joseph has been involved in wood creations since 2005 but there is a family history in wood-working that goes back to his father, Eddie and granddad James. His brother Seamus is an accomplished wood-craftsman who has excelled in sculpture, furniture restoration and even guitar building. Joseph works on an old Union Graduate lathe for his bowls, dishes and plates. For sculpting, he uses mainly hand-chisels and a band-saw. Liz Cashin Liz creates name plaques which are made from salt dough on a pine board. There are three different sizes ranging in price from €10 to €18. Any name can be ordered and made to requirements. Boys plaques mainly come with footballs/ hurleys in primary colours and girls plaques with butterflies and ladybirds in purples, pink and lilac colours. They make a lovely gift, be it for births; christenings; birthdays; communions; christmas; or just because you like them...
